Making Procedure

Dear guitar friend!

I would now like to give a brief overview about the most important aspect in the art of making a fine guitar: The selection of the materials!

How they look, how they feel, how they sound and how they inter react with each other. Choosing the soundboard spruce and ensuring that it has the unique qualities that I require takes a great deal of experience and knowledge. Clients are welcome to participate in choosing the soundboard and other components for their own special custom made guitar.

The methodology that I employ for constructing my guitars is based on that used by Torres Spanish method of using a “Solera” or workboard.
The guitar is made face down on the workboard. The neck is fitted to the soundboard using a Spanish heel, the sides are shaped by hand and then glued to the soundboard.

Before the guitar is removed from the workboard the back is fitted and glued on. Decorative bindings are then fitted followed by the gluing of the ebony fingerboard and shaping of the neck.

Finally the guitar is finished with a nitrocelullose laquer or optional in the traditional way of French polishing.
